The Wilson House was a fantastic getaway. Everything we could think of was already there: cooking supplies, towels, even firewood! It’s a great secluded place – we never worried about having the curtains open. Everything was clean, the wifi was stable, the hot water and heating were great, and there are plenty of suggestions for local activities. The valley is gorgeous, especially if you can catch a foggy morning in it. It’s picturesque and so peaceful. We mostly hiked through Monongahela Forest during our trip, but we spent a few hours on the hiking trail behind the house. There’s a wide open space about 10-20 minutes up the trail where you can see an even better view of the valley! Overall it was exactly the secluded mini-vacation we were looking for. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place.

The Wilson House is somewhere our family has gone for years! It’s amazingly stunning views and relaxing nature of the area really allows you to unplug! The house is always sparkling clean, the amenities around the house always functional, we love learning different things each time we come up! The locals are fantastic, it’s so relaxing and laid back! You won’t be disappointed, we’ve been with just a group of adults or most recently with our twin 5 year old kiddos!

The setting is lovely, the house is a gem, and we enjoyed our stay immensely! Monterey is a charming town and the countryside is serene. Thank you for a real change of pace!

The Wilson House was an absolutely terrific place. A historic home with, that was absolutely spotless with tons of extra touches that made it our most relaxing getaway this year. I just can’t stress how immaculate the place was. It was so quiet and relaxing and Mary has thought about every little thing you might need to make your stay wonderful. We will be back!!

Beyond beautiful piece of property. It was the most relaxing vacation I’ve had thus far. Everything you ever would need (little extra things around the house, tips, maps, etc.) is thought of and provided. Couldn’t have asked for a more peaceful and pleasant experience.

I was smitten with your house.  Not only was it charmingly furnished and spotlessly cleaned, but you have supplied it with everything possibly needed for a comfortable stay.  Very nice. A truly lovely visit!

It is so much fun to explore, looking through crevices and seeing the old farm things just as someone left them a long time ago when farming with work horses.  It is a snapshot in time

We’ve gotten hooked on The Wilson House and the Blue Grass Valley.  The beauty of the natural, unspoiled setting is what brings us back.  It feels like we’re taking a step back in time.

Our third visit this year – a Thanksgiving getaway.  We had great fun making a snowman, then coming into the warm house for hot chocolate.  As always, we can’t wait until the next visit.

The house is beautiful.  I can see why it is so popular with the artist crowd.  One night we had fajitas on the grill, s’mores by the campfire, and extended stargazing. 

We had a wonderful time at The Wilson House once again.  The wind that comes through the kitchen window is like spring itself.  We ate all our breakfasts on the deck and sat out there to watch sunsets.  We made tea from wild mint in the upper meadow, and sweet blackberries were used in pancakes.  We cycled on Route 600, canoed on Lake Moomaw, listened to chamber music at Garth Newel, and hiked in the Boreal Forest.   Most of the time we read, talked, and cooked feasts in the well-appointed kitchen. The Wilson House is a balm for whatever ails.  Thanks for sharing paradise!

The scenery is just breathtaking!  The house is great, very accommodating.  Would love to be here year round. Here is about as close to Heaven as you can get!

All those memories here are so dear.  Memories are God’s gift to man.

Two bald eagles were spotted, and a racoon looking for handouts.  We’ll be back!

The Allegheny Mountain region is so vast, timeless, and beautiful.  We have driven all over the area, gone for a ride on the Cass Scenic Railroad, visited the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, strolled through Monterey, and seen the McDowell Civil War battlefield.  But the highlight was a hike on The Wilson House property to the upper field – breathtaking! Thanks for a peaceful yet exhilarating time!

We awoke to the song of a steer at the fence, then enjoyed our morning coffee in front of the prettiest view we’ve seen in a long time. 

Your house is wonderful!   We had a great time and hope to be back next year.

This is our 4th year coming here.  We had fun last night with the campfire.  Everyone loves to come here, even my brother.

We had a great, relaxing time at The Wilson House – saw many beautiful views and animals.

Your house was clean and spotless, as usual!  It was a relaxing experience just to sit on the front porch and swing!  My daughter and I finally made the hike all the way to the top of the mountain behind your house, and we were proud of our accomplishment!

We were down for the Maple Festival.  We loved the house and really enjoyed our stay.  Kudos for keeping the house so nice and clean.

The scenery was worth the drive two times as long!

We really enjoyed this!  You surely did a great job preserving a place of history and things before change. 

We (family group) had a great time together. Several walks to the upper meadows.  I watched the half dozen chipmunks and three rabbits skillfully play tag with two of our grandchildren.  The neighboring cattle all lined up for a photo as we were grilling hamburgers. No bears were sighted this year.

A treat for the senses, a feast for the eyes, and the most comfortable of accommodations!

We had a wonderful time.  Birding was excellent, and we totaled over 100 birds for the weekend.  The house was great.

We loved the house, and the riding (bike) we did was spectacular.  We woke up early to go out and hear the turkeys gobble.

Such beauty for our 40th (anniversary)!  We had an absolutely glorious time.  You may live in Las Vegas, but you’re still a hell of a hostess!

The view was just breathtaking from the farm. We have never seen such a beautiful valley!  The beds were very comfortable. We cooked all our meals there, so we really appreciated the wide assortment of pots and pans. The swing and glider on the front porch were very popular.  So was the deck! My husband is history major and an antique lover, so he was enthralled by the place. (Wife)

I was filled with emotions during the visit.  Seeing the horse drawn equipment and grinding wheel reminded me of my grandfather. I have never seen as many original standing split rail fences as are on your place and in the Blue Grass Valley.  We saw a fox near the house and plenty of deer. I loved the view from the north side of the house. I would sit in the rocking chair and look out the window. Thank you for a wonderful time. (Husband)

I didn’t know this house was in the Bluegrass Valley!  It is obvious why people return. We had a wonderful time.  Great house, very comfortable.

Peaceful, scenic paradise!  A powerful windstorm our last night, but the house endured with grace.

As a preservationist, it warmed my heart to see that someone cares enough to save a house that might not seem worth preserving, due to its simplicity and early intended function.  I closely examined the house, marveling in its plainness of design, layout, and materials. Thank you for preserving it.

This is a terrific period house in a beautiful location. The photos online don’t really do justice to the view from the front of the property – we were there in March (before spring had sprung) and it was lovely then. In spring/summer/fall I can imagine the foliage being even better. It’s a super clean property with lots of space for a good-sized group. Despite the age of the house, it has been comfortably updated, yet at the same time you definitely get that “period” feel. Mary has provided lots of instructions, she’s extremely responsive, and she’s even labelled all of the cool outbuildings on the property so you’ll know what they were originally designed for. It has a nice hike up the mountain in the back of the house. Wireless was good, and it had great hot water and water pressure too (always a bonus!). I would highly recommend it as a base for exploring Highland County!

The Wilson House is such a lovely getaway. The property is is great for groups of all sizes and lovely in all seasons. The area is full of history and the locals are always accommodating. This was my fourth stay – you won’t be disappointed.
